Virtualization: purposes, types and technologies
Getting more with less
The virtualization is a technology, or body of technologies, which allow subdividing computer resources in several independent parts.
In this way, the virtualization allows the consolidation of several systems, users’ sessions or applications inside each computing single resource.
Usually, the virtualization allows installing in each physic computer other virtual computers, providing to each of them a part of its hardware resources in order to run contemporarily several operating systems independently.
The virtual computers, which are independent from the physic system, are able to dynamically increase or reduce the assigned computing resources such as Ram, physic space, number of cpu with easy clicks in the management console.
Since a few years ago we could talk about virtualization, terminalization and application streaming, well-aware of the boundaries of each technology, nowadays we have to subdivide the virtualization in several areas:
- Server Virtualization
- Desktop Virtualization
- Storage Virtualization
- Blade Consolidation & Workstation
- Applications Virtualization
